I didn't like this book as much as I liked "Christmas Joyride", but if you read my review of that book, you'll realize that it's not a compliment. It started out interesting but honestly the whole story is ridiculous. Harrington's is actually a very minor part of the book and doesn't even come into play until about halfway through. (SPOILER: Her past is discovered and it affects her job, but seriously what kind of company doesn't do a background check before hiring someone. The whole point of the book was that she was starting a new life. The job was supposedly waiting for her but yet initially she had to get the position on her own, which didn't really make sense.
I admit that it was the cover that drew me to this book, but the story just doesn't live up to my expectations. I only skimmed the last chapter when reading it and I think the writer must have skimmed it when writing it.

Always a delight to read Melody Carlson. I hope we all have angels watching over us and we are angels watching over others!

This was a delightful and heartwarming short story about second chances and forgiveness and told from a Christian perspective. Carlson is also the author of The Christmas Bus.

What a wonderful book! This is my first Melody Carlson book. I chose this book because it was Christmas themed, and it is Christmas time. It is relaxing, no hard-hitting climax, but still kept my attention, which makes it perfect to read by the fireplace, with your favourite blanket and a cup of steaming hot chocolate.

Lena, a former pastor's wife, had been falsely accused of embezzlement and sent to prison. This story begins at her release from the correctional center and follows her struggles to begin life anew. A new town, a new job ... it should be fairly easy to start over, right? At first it appears to be so when she meets several new friends who are willing to look beyond her past and give her a chance. The other people at the boarding house are just as down on their luck as she is and the friendships she makes there bring her heart back to life. An older lady in town has taken Lena under her wing, much to her attorney son's disliking. Her new job isn't exactly what she had expected, but she blossoms as she takes on the role of Mrs. Santa. When a former church member recognizes her and causes Lena trouble, things quickly turn disastrous.
