The best thing about this version is by far the music. The movie itself isn't my favorite version but it's definitely a great one. I've always loved Albert Finney.

You already know its a classic. Here's what I loved after revisiting:

I have been advised that it is all about Marley's weird ghost walk in this movie. After review, I agree--what a performance!

I'm also here for the ghost of Christmas present's 70's party robe.

Aaaand the "I hate people" song.

This is bar none my all-time favourite movie. It has even trumped Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree which my Mom tells me I watched over and over as a child, watch, rewaind, start again! I digress though...

I have watched dozens of adaptations of the Dickens tale, this one is the one I will forever keep on my shelf, I ended up purchasing a copy for myself and have gifted out several copies as well.

I strongly encourage everyone I know (and those which I don't) to watch this version and also to read the novel! I found my self singing along the very first time. :o)

Great musical with Albert Finney as Scrooge from 1970. I recommend it.

Sort of like going to Stratford or Toronto for a musical play, but with a cast of hundreds; the accents are pretty bad, but Albert Finney is a great actor; the script is not as Dickens wrote it, and it is duded up with special effects, but Alec Guinness does a great job as the dead Marley, just as the Victorians would have imagined it....just check out the old 19th century graveyards, they present a cultural version of death that is so Gothic you just don't want to go there, sort of like life itself in those days, as Thomas Hobbes described it, "solitary, poor, nasty, brutish and short"....but Tiny Tim does okay and Bob Cratchit gets his salary doubled after a lot of years without a raise, so it ends up okay, and everybody parades through town jumping and singing about how great Christmas is....

In my opinion, this is the best "Christmas Carol" ever made and I love the music in it. It is a musical. This movie spoiled me for any other version!

This is the best adaption of "A Christmas Carol" I have ever seen! (It is better than the George C. Scott version-- in my opinion.) The music adds to the story, and the actors did a marvelous job! The sets are wonderfully designed, and the story follows the actual book very closely. Great songs such as, "I Like Life", "Thank You Very Much", and "December the 25th" will be sure to delight the audience. This is a must see!

Albert Finney as Scrooge is a winner!! You will be surprised that this version is a musical, which since the music is not memorable, does get in the way. I recommend this Scrooge because at Christmas their is such a demand for holiday films for the family. There are many holiday films, but this is one of the few good ones that I can recommend.
