Add a CommentReally enjoyable, well-plotted, psychologically driven murders. I liked them all, rare for an anthology.
Sleep No More is well named; I was kept up at night thinking about the twists and meanings behind the mysterious stories. My favourite of the six tales was "the Yo-Yo" because it captures the theme of justice, or injustice rather, through a feeling lf dread when the murderer escapes the grasp of the law. It was an interesting read and had an unexpected resolution. As a whole, Sleep No More was beautifully written with complex vocabulary and very creative characters and scenarios, with incredible twists and sinister crimes that made my stomach flip. It was interesting to read about the darkest aspects of human nature and what might drive one to kill another. I think PD James is a fantastic mystery author. Their ability to establish atmosphere and complicated characters is almost as good as the storytelling and twist endings. Rating: 5/5

I’m not a fan of short stories, but these short stories by famed mystery writer, PD James, makes me think I’ve been wrong. These are great mysteries most with a twist at the end.
This collection of six short storeis are not up to James' usual high standard. The most interesting is The Yo Yo, a story that contains the book's theme: not all murderers are caught and punished.
The six stories that make up this little book are just so well put together. Each is engaging from beginning to end with twists that you may or may not see coming. I raced through them and then went back and read them again. So enjoyable and satisfying.

I loved PD James books so when I saw this new collection of short stories, I was pretty excited. It did not disappoint. This was a clever, fun, and quick read. Perfect for a dark, stormy winter night!
These short stories should be read slowly, attentively and perhaps twice over for they hide more complex machinations than meet the eye! A little treasure chest for British crime fiction lovers .
Good things come in small packages. SLEEP NO MORE with the apt subtitle, “Six Murderous Tales”, is a short story collection in the intelligent, British “whodunit” tradition. It’s also a marvelous testament to the talent and genius of author PD James, “The Queen of Crime”. Her astute, often cynical, observations of human behavior and what drives ordinary people to kill make for a very entertaining read. Each story is so atmospheric, full of beautiful prose (it’ll expand your vocabulary) and contains at least one expected or surprising twist. SLEEP NO MORE with its heady mix of the sinister and the humorous is a quick read perfect for a cold winter’s evening in front of a roaring fire.
the most highly educated mystery writer ever. she is so erudite her voice does not grip me.
