I liked this novel more than I did the first in this series. Interesting characters, with mysteries of their own, and a setting I want to visit. Complicated plot and back stories which was hard for me to always keep track of but that’s…

The second book int the Three Pines mysteries. Very intricate plot involving the murder of a truly obnoxious new resident of Three Pines at a curling match. The plot to eliminate INspector Gamache from the Surete moves insidiously…

DNF. I listened to the audiobook, which was fine. I didn't like the feeling of being manipulated by the author. Example: Gamache is such a great detective and mentor, but during a team meeting where all his underlings give reports, he cuts…

Another great murder mystery from author Louise Penny. And, true to form, it's actually two murder mysteries. One is fairly straight forward, and the other unusual, if not to say complicated. And, as usual, Chief Inspector Armand Gamache…

I liked the author's first book better. This was good, but the characters did not grab me as they did in the first book, though they were still good. I'm going to put a hold now for the next book in the series.

Book #2 in The Three Pines mystery series. This time Gamache is investigating a murder that took place in front of everyone but no one saw. I love Louise Penny's ability to really draw the reader into the scenery and the story. I didn't…

Another excellent story with Inspector Armand Gamache. At times I had a little trouble keeping track of all the characters but they all meld together well. A nasty newcomer to the town of Three Pines is murdered in front of everyone during…

I found Still Life a bit too folksy, like I was dropped into a tiny little backwoods village, which I guess IS what Three Pines is. "A Fatal Grace" was a bit better, so I gave it 3 1/2 stars. Since I'd read "Still Life", I was was…

I gave Still Life 2 1/2 stars -- did not like it overall, but liked aspects. Thus, I tried Three Pines #2. Unfortunately, although I was happy that it was better written, I enjoyed it less, including the murder and its solving. I realize…

This book really gets interesting when the murder happens. It might take awhile to get into it, but once the investigation starts everything starts to unfold. It is set in Canada, so it is a bit different then other mysteries you might…

This is the 2nd book in the series, often referred to by readers as the ‘Inspector Gamache series’ as well as ‘Three Pines mysteries.’ The second book set in Three Pines, the second murder of this quaint, isolated little town. Personally,…

I enjoy the little village that is home to quite a group of people. All of their flaws make them interesting characters. Gamache fits in perfectly. Off to read another book

This was difficult to get into. It felt like preparing for a road trip with high-maintenance relatives in that I found myself questioning: do I really want to go on this trip (read the book)? why do I have to figure out so many people's…

A late joiner to the Louise Penny fandom...but I find the community of Three Pines one I really like visiting. I like that the stories don't center on "beautiful people" being "fabulous." These stories feel earthy and real.

Despite a bizarre and far-fetched murder, I enjoyed putting the puzzle pieces together alongside the inimitable Chief Inspector Armand Gamache in A FATAL GRACE. Does the overall mystery rely a little too much on coincidences? Yes, but…
