I think this may the best book I've read this year (out of approx 25). I may go so far as to say it is as good as Stieg Larsson's Millenium series books though it would just be best to say they are all excellent.
The characters are believable and in the case of the good....very likable. Carl Morck the main character is a generally gruff dude who really cares about people and is just plain humorous. His assistant Assad often steals the show in more than one way.
The book is a page turner with no slow spots and becomes increasingly tense right until the last pages. I highly recommend this great read.I think this may the best book I've read this year (out of approx 25). I loved the first book....struggled through the second....and thought this was good but at times slugged through it. I'm glad I read it but I don't quite understand the fascination with the series after the first book which is a true original.

I really loved Hunger Games and was unsure where this sequel was going to take me. I found the initial hundred pages to be a little bit monotonous leading into a strong middle and excellent finish. I didn't love this book like the first but it is a must read if you enjoyed the Hunger Games as I did. A book about a young soldier in the Marines with promise. The character development in this book is fantastic and you really begin to care about Kenneth "Killer" McCoy and his buddy "Pick". Much more a book about the characters and their experiences in the Marines at the time of World War II than a pure War historical.A book about a young soldier in the Marines with promise. This is a truly engaging read with well thought out, well developed characters. The author brings us in to this bizarre and dark/cold world and you can help but being absorbed by it.
I'm saying 5 stars because it is such a true original series....looking forward to the following two books. This is a truly engaging read with well thought out, well developed characters. The author brings us in to this bizarre and dark/cold world and you can help but being absorbed by it.

This is a fun ride and well written. Some of the initial scenes with Meg Cassidy are fantastic and I would say worth reading the book just for those scenes.
I was kind of disappointed with the ending and may go back and read it again as it almost seemed to me that Brad Thor decided he had enough pages so he just ended it.

I've now read 2 Bosch novels....The Black Echo and now The Black Ice.
I liked Black Echo quite a bit but this just did not work for me at all. Some have said the twist at the end was good. Maybe it was but by the time I got there I was so bored I just didn't care.
I recommend skipping this one.I've now read 2 Bosch novels....The Black Echo and now The Black Ice.

I'm really glad to see that people liked this.
The books are just soooo incredible that I really struggled with all that needed to be cut out. I struggle to understand how people would be able to grasp the importance of certain parts of the story when it was given perhaps a 5 second clip.
The casting of Lisbeth however was absolutely brilliant. Nearly as good were the casting of Advocat Bjurman, Henrik Vanger and Martin Vanger.
The casting on Erika Berger (a major character in the book and a nobody in the movie) was poor (though perhaps on purpose) and same with Harriatt Vanger who is suppose to be a powerful business woman.
I now need to watch the rest because I want to see what they did with them.I'm really glad to see that people liked this.

I can't get over how good this is. It is a tragedy that Stieg Larsson, who planned this as a series of 10 books went and died after submitting the first three to his editor and before finishing the forth book.
This book is different than the other two and really is a true extension and resolution of the second book. It is brilliant and very calculated in the way it is put together. A lot of people loved this book but I struggled with it. I still love the characters of Kidd and Luelen and the premise is interesting.
A huge departure from a Fools Run which I loved. Worth reading if you like the series as I do.

My second favorite in the series...I love the characters Kidd and Luelen. It's a very unique series that I wish Sandford would spend more time on.

This book is an unbelievably good follow up to the dragon tattoo. As others mentioned there is not the same slow start. It comes out of the gate running and is incredibly enjoyable all the way to the end.
I highly recommend.

The first half of the book is tough slugging and then when Larsson is done setting the stage the book becomes a fantastic page turner. Lizbeth Salander is a wonderful character who kept me reading during the set up.

I had to fight through the first 100 pages or so as Brad Thor built the basis for the story. From then on it was a great ride. Scot Harvath is a really enjoyable character as is Claudia Mueller. The villains are also well written.

It took me about 60 pages to get into this book but I truly enjoyed it. It's got a fairly original story line with a believable plot. Looking forward to the next 3 in the series.
