Book Klub Choices : the Also Rans

Annotation:ran against: the hunger games. The lure of something currenlty very popular overruled this psychological thriller

Annotation:ran against: the hunger games. The lure of something currently very popular overruled this retelling (though I think the mention of 'cadence' and 'rhyming scheme' didn't help)

Annotation:ran against: the hunger games. The lure of something currently very popular overruled this potentially bleak (usually bleak = a winner) Canadian novel.

Annotation:Ran against: Player one by Douglas Coupland. He's a difficult author to run against.

Annotation:Ran against: Player One by Douglas Coupland. He's a difficult author to run against.

Annotation:Ran against: Player One by Douglas Coupland. He's a difficult author to run against (i wasn't at this Klub night, so am at a loss of what to say here)

Annotation:Ran against: its kind of a funny story. It has bleak going for it, but i think the subject matter didn't appeal.

Annotation:Ran against: its kind of a funny story. Our very, very first popular series choice... but it wasn't chosen.

Annotation:ran against: its kind of a funny story.. it sounds dark and bleak - maybe too bleak?

Annotation:Ran against: its kind of a funny story. This one scored high on the book klub voting list, but lost out to teen angst.

Annotation:Ran against: the Guernsey literary and potato peel society.

Annotation:Ran against: the Guernsey literary and potato peel pie society. Although beautifully written, it wasn't the right book for the Klub at the right time.

Annotation:Ran against: Guernsey literary and potato peel pie society. Really, with a title like that, did anything else have a chance? Though i think the cool/snowy spring we had meant nobody was interested in reading a book that takes place up north.

Annotation:Ran against: Dog Gone It. Another close choice; but i think after reading the 900 page 'girl with a dragon tattoo', the Klub members were in the mood for less weighty - word wise and size wise.

Annotation:Ran Against: Dog Gone it. This was potentially another bleak choice. interesting premise, but not enough to pull it to the top of the list.

Annotation:Ran against: Dog Gone It. This was the 'bleak' option for the Klub and it wasn't selected! maybe bleak has run its course? though there was an urge to read it because of the cultural relevance (the movie, i mean).

Annotation:Ran against: Dog gone it. Klub members were interested in literature based in the ancient world and how Aristotle dealt with a teenager who is too smart for his own good. Again, lost to a non-traditional narrator (a dog).

Annotation:Ran against: Dog Gone It. it was close (probably the second choice) but the lure of a non-traditional narrator won out. Plus, the Klub seems more in a mood for less bleak material.
Description
Book Klub selecters usually bring between 4 and 6 choices for members to vote on, using a very Byzantine scoring system. Sometimes, very interesting books don't get chosen, but Klub members still want to read them. This list will try to track the 'also rans'.
