Annotation:Things that go bump in the night are always up my alley sand with the stories On Skua Island and Mr. Guant (about mummys that have come to life) and Tutorial (about a misadventure in the bowels of a university) is at times witty and macabre. This new voice in horror has great promise.

Annotation:A young woman is recruited by an unsavory character to dupe her new mistress into marriage in order to rob the mistress of her fortune. Except the young woman is also duped. And then so is the new husband. And so on. Twisting and devious this historical tale is totally absobing.

Annotation:Enter the world of a poor London girl who has fallen from grace because she coveted a red ribbon in an alley in 1670''s London. Her mother throws her out of her home and she is taken in by a prostitute and then becomes one herself. These actions only lead to further a downward spiral that is impossible to escape. Based on a true story.

Annotation:Margaret is surprised when she is asked to write the biography of reclusive author Vida Winter, but when she arrives at the writer''s home, she finds herself drawn into Miss Winter''s extremely strange life story. Perusing the library one evening, Margaret finds all of Miss Winter''s books except for one. Soon she is caught up in the family secrets that the Winters have tried to hide for decades.

Annotation:Although I don't usually like dog books, the dog usually gets it in the end, this book I can make an exception to. With his master a car racer, Enzo the dog really learns to enjoy the ride and to roll with the punches. A little melodramtic at times, the story did surprise me with the humanity of a dog's life.

Annotation:Abby is in love with two people - her fiance and his five year old daughter, Emma. Although not a mother herself, Abby finds herself enjoying her role as step-mother-to-be until one day on the beach she loses sight of Emma as she disappears into the fog. The search that ensues will bring about a truth that Abby will find hard to face.

What Bessy then sets into motion may lead to a resolution or to disaster.

Annotation:Sam's mother has committed suicide by dropping her radio in the tub while she was bathing in an unlocked remote Cornish cottage. The only thing was she wasn't depressed.
